Lecturer A: The normal crypt-to-villus ratio in the small bowel is 1:5. Anything else should make you think celiac disease.
Lecturer B: The crypt-to-villus ratio should be 1:3. Less is celiac.
Lecturer C: If you see this clinical history and a specimen with a crypt-to-villus of less than 1:4, the patient has celiac sprue.
